ArC - Art Reflecting Citizenship, 2006

Firstsite and Montgomery Infants School, Colchester

Three year project that explored the theme of good citizenship through artist residencies in schools around Colchester.

Artist in residence at Montgomery Infants school during the summer term, working with the reception class to explore the themes of citizenship. The school is on the army base and many of the children had parents away in Afganistan. We explored citizens of the world and how other cultures live, different types of homes and how they enhance their surroundings with decoration, art and textiles. The children learnt different textile techniques, such as dying, printing, embroidery, the final outcome was a story tent that was decorated with their work. The tent was exhibited at Firstsite before returning to the school.
