West Earlham Infant School, Sainsbury Centre and John Innes Centre, Norwich
60 year 2 pupils form west Earlham infants school explored, nature and biodiversity through investigating plants, pollen and insects. We visited the John Innes Centre, met with scientists and made drawings in their research maedow. In workhops back in the school we created totem sculptures for the school garden that were giant stacked pollen grains. The sculptures were made entirely by the children working in small groups using, clay, modroc, twigs, paint and paper. The sculptures are semi-permanent and they have openings in them which are filled with twigs and leaves to make homes for bugs and are to encourage pollinators.
